In January, Gen Z: We Are The Future’s 2022 Skill Exposition will kick off with our very first workshop: Artvocacy! What is artvocacy, you ask? Artvocacy is defined as the usage of art to advocate for social issues. Though it has been referred to under many names throughout history, it has always been an intrinsic part of social justice movements in some form or another. Whether it be visual arts, music, dance, photography, ceramics, or more, artvocacy has an enormous impact on our society. It’s extremely useful in social justice because it’s easily understood by people from all walks of life. If you want to learn more about how we can use art in our world, you can attend this workshop on the 23rd of January. You will have the chance to meet and learn from activists who have used art to amplify their voices and their messages.

Artvocacy is the usage of artistic disciplines in advocacy. For centuries, it has been used in propaganda and in social justice movements. From the Black Lives Matter movement to the suffragette movement and beyond, the usage of art dominates the activists’ external communication methods.

The reason for its popularity lies in its efficacy; art can be interpreted and understood by people from all backgrounds and walks of life. Unlike written media and flyers, literacy is not a barrier in artvocacy. Art also helps all people find and use their voices to actively make change.

To learn more about artvocacy, you can sign up for the first workshop of our 2022 Skills Expo.

The workshop will take place on Sunday, January 23 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM Pacific Standard Time. Registrations are open now! So what are you waiting for? Sign up by clicking the button below!
